DNA
DNA from the Beginning is organized around key concepts. The science behind each concept is explained by: animation, image gallery, video interviews, problem, biographies, and links. Training is provided by expert DNA Learning Center staff, and is offered free-of-charge to participating teachers. Professional development credit or stipend will be provided upon completion. High schools throughout New York City are invited to the Harlem DNA Lab for half-day lab field trips. Each lab is inspired by techniques and tools currently used by research scientists. This experiment illustrates the direct link between an organism's genetic complement (genotype) and its observable characteristics (phenotype). Students genetically engineer the bacterium E. coli to uptake genes for antibiotic resistance and bioluminescence.
